Economic catalysts drive systems change in our economy by spurring innovation, bridging divides, and addressing societal inequities. This fall, the Aspen Institute presents three insightful discussions with influential change-makers who are reshaping the concepts of work and wealth.

Join Erika Karp (Executive Director of the Finance Leaders Fellowship) on September 9th for the first of three webinars: Values-Driven Investing with Justin Rockefeller.  Justin Rockefeller is Cofounder & Chair of The ImPact (a global membership community of families aligning their assets with their values) & Trustee at Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Philanthropy can provide the catalytic capital required to invest in projects and initiatives that unlock opportunities for millions of people who are otherwise underserved by traditional capital markets. For generations, few household family names have been as prominently philanthropic as the Rockefellers. This conversation will explore themes such as alignment of capital and values, engaging the next generation in changemaking through philanthropy and investing, and how one family foundation is aligning its endowment with its mission through decarbonization and a gender and racial equity lens.

Those who join us live will have the opportunity to engage real-time in a Q&A session with our speakers.

This webinar speaker series is made possible by the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth.

Justin Rockefeller has leveraged technology, networks, boards, and public speaking to pursue his purpose: to persuade influential people and institutions to align their resources with their values for the betterment of current and distant-future generations. This 2020 published essay explores synergies in his approach.

Justin co-founded and chairs The ImPact, a global membership community of 85+ families committed to aligning their investments with their values. Our mission is to help families make more impact investments more effectively, and our purpose is to improve the probability and pace of solving social and environmental problems by increasing the flow of capital to investments that generate measurable impact. We are changing how money moves in the world by empowering and amplifying continuous action by our member families and facilitating collaboration that can create systemic impact.

Justin serves on the board and the investment, decarbonization, and nominating committees of Rockefeller Brothers Fund. A decade ago, he helped steer the private foundation towards mission-aligned investing of its endowment. Since 2020, Justin has formally advised the Milken Institute’s Center for Strategic Philanthropy.

From 2012 – 2023, Justin worked at Addepar, a multi-product software and data platform for the world’s most complex investment portfolios. He joined pre-revenue, and worked in sales, marketing, product, and its broker dealer. As Head of Impact and, previously, Head of Family Offices, he helped the company scale, by the day he left, to 900+ clients across 30+ markets tracking $4.3T in assets on its platform, 800+ employees, and 7 global offices.

Previously, Justin was Principal at Richmond Global, a venture capital firm focusing on technology-enabled services and mobile technologies. Before that, he co-founded and chaired GenerationEngage, a nationwide social enterprise connecting community-college students with household-name politicians.

Justin’s other previous board memberships include: Population Council; Japan Society; Rockefeller Family Fund; The International Council of The Museum of Modern Art; the Alliance for the Arts; and Mobilize.org.

In 2002, Justin graduated from Princeton University, and then worked for three years at The Museum of Modern Art. He and his wife have two daughters and live in New York.

Erika Karp joined the Aspen Institute as Executive Director of the Finance Leaders Fellowship in January 2024 following 25-plus years of experience in finance and capital markets, with leadership roles spanning sustainable and impact investing, investment banking, asset management, and wealth advising. While on Wall Street, Erika developed a deep belief in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) analysis as a critical input to investment decision-making. From this belief stemmed her vision to leverage the system of capitalism towards a more regenerative and inclusive global economy, in part by advocating for the confluence and strategic deployment of financial, human, and natural capital. Erika most recently served as Executive Managing Director and Chief Impact Officer at Pathstone, an $80B family office and investment advisor. Prior to joining Pathstone, Erika was the founder and CEO of Cornerstone Capital Group, a sustainable and impact investment advisory firm, which she founded in 2013 and scaled from zero to $1.3B AUM before leading the merger with Pathstone in 2021. Previously, Erika was Managing Director and Head of Global Sector Research at UBS Investment Bank, where she created and chaired the Global Investment Review Committee, served on the UBS Securities Research Executive Committee, and served on the Environmental and Human Rights Committee of the UBS Group Executive Board.

Erika speaks on matters of sustainable investing and finance at venues around the world, including the UN Global Compact, the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Wharton School, the New York Stock Exchange, the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development, the White House, the Vatican, and many others. She holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia University and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School. Erika lives in New York City with her wife and three daughters.
